Drivers and residents in Glenwood Springs should expect a mix of lane closures, detours, and seasonal construction activity across several key corridors this month. Projects range from local utility work to major highway impacts through Glenwood Canyon.

Hwy 6 & 24: Shared Use Path Closure and Lane Impacts

The shared-use path along Highway 6 & 24 is closed between Donegan Road and Linden Street through August 31, 2026 as crews work on a new path and utility upgrades.

Motorists should expect:

  • Lane closures
  • Reduced speed limits of 25 mph
  • Ongoing construction activity in the corridor

Transit riders should note:

  • The westbound Ride Glenwood Traver Trail stop has been temporarily relocated to W. 1st Street near the Antlers Hotel
  • Eastbound stop remains unchanged

Airport Road: Lane Closures Beginning Week of April 7

Construction to replace aging natural gas mains is underway along Airport Road south of Morgan Street.

  • Two lanes remain open through the weekend
  • Beginning Monday, expect lane closures with stop-and-go traffic control
  • Work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Project expected to wrap up by mid-April

I-70 Glenwood Canyon: Lane Reductions and Ramp Closures

CDOT crews have resumed work on bridge joint improvements throughout Glenwood Canyon, impacting travel along a 17-mile stretch between Glenwood Springs and Dotsero.

Key impacts include:

  • Eastbound and westbound I-70 reduced to one lane in work zones
  • Speed limits reduced to 35 mph
  • Width restrictions of 11 feet in place for large vehicles

Upcoming ramp closures:

  • Both ramps are expected to reopen by the morning of April 7

Drivers should plan for delays, especially during peak travel times.

Glenwood Canyon Recreation Path: Partial Closure

The recreation path through Glenwood Canyon is partially open:

  • Glenwood Springs to Shoshone Power Plant: open
  • Shoshone to Bair Ranch: closed

The full corridor is expected to reopen within the next two weeks as final repairs and safety improvements are completed.

Downtown Glenwood: Parking Garage Closure

The 9th and Cooper Parking Garage will have a partial closure on April 3 starting at 10 a.m.

  • South side of the garage will be closed for HVAC maintenance
  • Lower level entrance will remain open

A larger construction project on Coach Miller Drive is scheduled for summer 2026, running from June 4 through September 1.

The City of Glenwood Springs will host two public meetings for residents:
