The Montrose Recreation District has selected longtime leader Justin Mashburn as its next Executive Director. After nearly 21 years with the district, Mashburn will lead future recreation programs, capital projects, and community partnerships beginning July 20.
The Montrose Recreation District has selected Justin Mashburn as its next Executive Director, promoting a longtime district leader to guide the organization through a period of continued growth and investment in parks, recreation, and community facilities.
Mashburn, who officially begins his new role on Monday, July 20, brings nearly 21 years of experience with the Recreation District, where he has held a variety of leadership positions overseeing recreation programming, facility management, strategic planning, community engagement, and organizational development.
District officials say his experience and familiarity with the community make him well positioned to lead the organization as it expands recreational opportunities and advances several major capital projects.
Rather than hiring from outside the organization, the Recreation District Board chose a candidate with more than two decades of institutional knowledge and experience serving Montrose residents.
During his career with the district, Mashburn has helped develop recreation programs, manage facilities, strengthen partnerships with community organizations, and support long-term planning efforts.
Board President Barb Sharrow said the district is entering an important new phase.
"This is an exciting new chapter for the Montrose Recreation District. Our Board is confident that Justin is the right leader to build on our strong foundation while fostering innovation, collaboration, and excellence," Sharrow said. "We look forward to working together to serve our community and continue providing outstanding recreation opportunities for years to come."
As Executive Director, Mashburn will oversee day-to-day operations while leading several significant capital improvement projects planned by the district.
His responsibilities will also include strengthening partnerships with local governments, schools, community organizations, sports user groups, and residents while ensuring parks, recreation facilities, and programs continue to meet the community's changing needs.
The district says Mashburn's leadership will focus on delivering high-quality recreational experiences while maintaining the parks and facilities that serve residents throughout the Montrose area.
Mashburn said he is eager to continue working with staff and community partners in his new role.

The appointment comes as the Recreation District continues investing in new facilities, recreational programming, and long-term improvements designed to support Montrose's growing population.
District leaders say they look forward to working with Mashburn as the organization continues its mission of enriching the community through parks, recreation, wellness, and exceptional customer service.
