The new year is packed with opportunities to connect, create, move, and celebrate across Glenwood Springs. From a family-friendly New Year’s celebration to arts programs, youth activities, wellness classes, and winter recreation, Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation is kicking off 2026 with something for everyone.

Noon Year’s Eve Family Celebration

Families are invited to ring in the New Year early at Noon Year’s Eve on Wednesday, December 31, from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Community Center.

This free celebration features a lively dance party atmosphere, a signature countdown, and a giant balloon drop. A dedicated Chill Zone will be available for anyone needing a low-stimulation environment, along with accessible viewing areas to ensure inclusive fun for all ages.

2026 State of the City

Residents looking to get involved locally can attend the 2026 State of the City on Saturday, January 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This free community event offers a chance to connect with neighbors and city leaders, hear updates on major projects, and participate in small-group discussions covering transportation, construction, housing, public safety, economic development, parks and recreation, and more. Refreshments will be provided, and RSVPs are encouraged.

Athletics and Outdoor Recreation

The Athletics program has been named a national finalist for Community League of the Year, recognizing excellence in access and youth development. January highlights include the CARA Basketball Skills Challenge, youth basketball leagues, and upcoming spring programs such as adult coed volleyball and NFL Flag football. A full athletics schedule is available at GlenwoodRecSports.com.

Gear Library

Outdoor exploration is more accessible through the Gear Library at the Community Art Center, offering affordable winter gear rentals ranging from $1 to $20, including adaptive equipment.

Residents should note several scheduled closures, including gymnasium and aquatic center closures on select dates in late December and throughout January.
