Glenwood Springs’ newly remodeled Community Arts Center will celebrate its reopening Aug. 15 with live art demonstrations, mini concerts, giveaways and 20% off class registrations.
Glenwood Springs residents can get a first look at a newly remodeled Community Arts Center this Saturday, August 15, when the city hosts an open house featuring live demonstrations, mini concerts, giveaways and discounted class registration.
The free event will run at the Community Arts Center, 601 E. 6th St. in Glenwood Springs, giving visitors a chance to tour the renovated facility, meet instructors and learn about an expanded lineup of arts classes for children, teens and adults.
Anyone who registers for a class during the open house will receive 20% off registration fees.
Located inside the city's historic hydroelectric building, the Community Arts Center has undergone a substantial renovation over the past year.
The redesigned facility now includes four dedicated program spaces: a music venue, dance hall, clay studio and art room. Additional improvements include new flooring and wall finishes, fresh paint, a new roof and a fully ADA-accessible bathroom.
Art and Leisure Coordinator Traci Wilson said the renovations represent years of work to improve both the building and the programs it can accommodate.
"These infrastructure improvements have been years in the making, from ADA upgrades to a new roof and a fully updated interior," Wilson said. "We're thrilled to open our doors and show how these changes support a richer, more accessible arts experience for everyone."
The expanded facility allows the city to offer a wider variety of programs, including painting, fused glass, upcycling art, printmaking, sewing, crochet, adult tap dance, theater dance for children and teens, and other dance formats.
Wellness Supervisor Tiffany Lindenberg said the renovation has made it possible to bring ideas for new programming into the building.
"This is my dream," Lindenberg said. "I had ideas in my head about what I'd like to see here, and now we have the ability to offer so many different types of art for all ages. To see it come together has been amazing."
Visitors will be able to see several of the center's new programs in action throughout the afternoon.

Instructors will also be available to answer questions about upcoming classes. Snacks and giveaways will be available during the event.
Families interested in classes may also be eligible for financial assistance.
The Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation Department offers scholarships for youth who live within Glenwood Springs city limits. The assistance can cover a portion of class costs, including more expensive programs such as the Rock and Roll Academy.
"We're excited about our new programming," Lindenberg said. "We want to get people back into art."
