Sunshine Community is a Grand Junction–based nonprofit working to help unhoused and ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) neighbors rebuild stability, independence, and connection. Through an intentional 6–12 month pilot program, the organization provides a compassionate, structured path for individuals who are ready to take meaningful steps toward long-term change. Participants receive coordinated support including housing navigation, employment readiness, counseling, transportation, peer coaching, and help overcoming paperwork, identification, and financial barriers—core challenges that often prevent progress. Sunshine Community believes every person deserves the opportunity to move forward with dignity and hope.

At the heart of the organization’s mission is a commitment to building a fairer, more connected Mesa County—one where individuals living under the ALICE threshold or experiencing homelessness can access the tools, community, and encouragement needed to thrive. Sunshine Community partners with agencies across the region to expand access to resources, reduce duplication, and create a cohesive network of support. Their pilot program includes peer accountability, resume development, regular nurse wellness checks, art and computer classes, financial guidance, transportation through Sunshine Rides, and even air-conditioned pet kennels to ensure services remain accessible.

Now, Sunshine Community is taking a significant step forward by opening Sunshine Community House—a small, home-style transitional residence designed to support eight local neighbors as they rebuild their stability, confidence, and independence. The house provides a living environment rooted in safety, routine, and community—an essential foundation for people stepping out of crisis and into a new chapter of self-sufficiency.
