April brings one of the busiest stretches of the year to the Bill Heddles Recreation Center in Delta, Colorado. From a week-long Spring Break celebration to youth sports clinics, garden programming, and free toddler events, Delta Recreation has built a calendar that gives families, teens, and kids something to look forward to nearly every day of the month. Whether you are a longtime member or just discovering what the Rec has to offer, here is everything happening in April 2026.


About Bill Heddles Recreation Center

For readers new to the area, the Bill Heddles Recreation Center is a full-service community recreation facility in Delta, Colorado, operated by Delta Recreation, a City of Delta department. The building features four pools (lap, leisure with lazy river, toddler, and hot tub), a dry sauna, a basketball gym, racquetball courts, a weight room, a cardio studio with spin bikes, and a children's play area. Programs run year-round for all ages.


Spring Break at the Delta Rec

April 13–18 | Special $3 admission for all ages, all week

Spring Break week at Bill Heddles Recreation Center is the centerpiece of April's lineup. Delta Recreation has organized a different mix of drop-in activities each day, making it easy to come back multiple times throughout the week.

  • Monday, April 13: Full gym open for basketball (5:30 AM–4:30 PM), Open Swim (10 AM–7 PM), Wallyball (11 AM–3 PM), and the first session of the Basketball Skills Clinic (5–8 PM, pre-registration required by April 13).
  • Tuesday, April 14: Basketball (5:30–9 AM), Open Swim (10 AM–7 PM), Free Billiards -- Learn from the Pros (11 AM–noon), Wallyball (11 AM–3 PM), Nerf Battle in the half gym (11 AM–1 PM), Minute-to-Win-It Games (1–3 PM), and Basketball Skills Clinic (5–8 PM, pre-registration required).
  • Wednesday, April 15: Full gym basketball (5:30–11 AM), Open Swim (10 AM–7 PM), Wallyball (11 AM–3 PM), and Bounce Houses 11 AM–3 PM -- large inflatables in the half gym, sponsored by Mesa Rentals, plus small bounce houses for ages 5 and under in the conference room.
  • Thursday, April 16: Basketball (5:30–9 AM), Open Swim (10 AM–7 PM), Free Billiards (11 AM–noon), Wallyball (11 AM–3 PM), half-gym basketball (11 AM–1 PM), Basketball Competitions including a Free Throw Contest with special prizes (11 AM–1 PM), and full gym open 1–8 PM.
  • Friday, April 17: Full gym basketball (5:30 AM–8 PM), Open Swim (10 AM–7 PM), Free Billiards (11 AM–noon), Wallyball (11 AM–3 PM), and Boxing -- a fun introduction to heavy bags, the reflex bag, and agility stations (11 AM–1 PM).
  • Saturday, April 18: Full gym basketball (9 AM–5 PM) and Fun with Floats Open Swim (10 AM–5 PM).

At $3 for all ages all week, this is one of the best-value events Delta County families will find this spring.


Western Colorado Basketball Clinic with Coach Stoney Morlan

April 13–14 | Bill Heddles Recreation Center

Running alongside Spring Break, this two-day basketball clinic brings Coach Stoney Morlan to Delta, Colorado for focused skill development work with youth players.

  • 3rd–5th grade boys and girls: 5:00–6:30 PM
  • 6th–8th grade boys and girls: 6:30–8:00 PM
  • Cost: $20 | Register by April 13

Coach Morlan brings more than 20 years of basketball coaching experience across Texas and Colorado, including work with youth and travel teams such as Keller Elite, Blackout Basketball, and Prospect Boys Basketball. A NASM Certified Personal Trainer, his sessions focus on fundamentals, skill development, and teamwork.

Toddler Time: Little Explorers

Wednesday, April 8 | 9–11 AM | Free for ages 2 and under / $4.50 for ages 3–5

Toddler Time is a monthly morning program at Bill Heddles Recreation Center, held on the second Wednesday of each month. The April 8 session runs 9–11 AM: Story Time from 9 to 10 AM, followed by a Bug Sensory Bin activity. Little ones are encouraged to dress as explorers -- hats, vests, and adventure gear are all welcome. Admission is free for ages 2 and under; ages 3–5 are $4.50.


Teens Only: Glow Dodgeball and Pizza

Friday, April 10 | 8:00–10:00 PM | Ages 12–18 | $10

Delta Recreation is setting aside a night just for teens. On April 10, the Rec hosts a Glow Dodgeball and Pizza event under black lights from 8 to 10 PM. To get the full effect, participants are encouraged to wear white or neon colors.

At $10 per person, this is a solid Friday-night option for middle and high schoolers in Delta County looking for something to do after school hours.


Kids Garden Club

March 18 – May 13, 2026 | Wednesdays, 4:15–5:15 PM | $5 material fee

The Kids Garden Club runs through the spring on Wednesday afternoons and is open to students from kindergarten through middle school. Participants plant their own starts, care for them through the season, and learn about plants and gardening hands-on.

A few logistics to keep in mind: closed-toed shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are required. The club does not meet on holidays or during school breaks. A bus will drop off participants at the Rec Center (a bus pass is required and can be obtained at the Front Desk), and parents pick up at the garden at the end of each session.

Community Garden Plots Available

Register by May 1 | Planting begins May 15 | $25 per plot

Delta Recreation is offering 8 raised beds and 4 in-ground beds in the community garden for the 2026 growing season. Plots are $25 each. Gardeners can keep their harvest or donate it to a local organization of their choice.
