Grand Junction is ramping up hiring and construction efforts for its new Community Recreation Center (CRC), signaling one of the largest upcoming public facility launches in the region.

The City is currently hiring for approximately 150 part-time roles to support operations ahead of the center’s planned opening in late 2026.

Major Hiring Push Underway

Available positions span a wide range of roles, including:

  • Lifeguards and swim instructors
  • Fitness instructors
  • Guest services staff
  • Climbing wall attendants
  • Child care aides
  • Custodial staff

Many of these roles are expected to begin in late summer or early fall, allowing time for training before the facility opens.

City officials note that this hiring effort will make Grand Junction one of the largest employers of part-time and youth workers in the area.

Construction Progress Continues

Construction of the Community Recreation Center is actively progressing, with several major milestones already underway.

Recent updates include:

  • Installation of gym equipment and divider systems
  • Pool liner installation
  • Lighting and interior finishing work
  • Ongoing landscaping

The facility is expected to include aquatics areas, fitness spaces, youth programming areas, and multi-use recreation features.

Additional Parks and Recreation Updates

Other recent highlights from the Parks and Recreation Department include:

  • The Aquatics Division receiving a Gold Safety Award, placing it among the top-performing facilities globally
  • Continued investment in facility upgrades, including maintenance work on the Lincoln Park waterslide
  • Ongoing staffing and program expansion ahead of the CRC launch

What This Means for the Community

The Community Recreation Center represents a major long-term investment in public infrastructure, workforce development, and quality of life in Grand Junction.

Beyond recreation, the project is expected to:

  • Create local job opportunities
  • Expand access to community programming
  • Provide a central gathering space for residents

As hiring and construction continue, the CRC is becoming one of the most significant public projects currently underway in the region.
