Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation Announces Ice Rink “Slush Down,” Summer Programs, and Spring Activities
Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation announced its first-ever “Slush Down” ice rink closing party along with summer youth programs, sports leagues, aquatics classes, art workshops, and outdoor gear rentals as the community heads into the spring recreation season.
Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation is heading into spring with a full schedule of community programs, recreation opportunities, and special events for residents of all ages.
One of the highlights of the season will be the first-ever “Slush Down” Ice Rink Closing Party, scheduled for March 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event will mark the end of the winter skating season with a festive community celebration at the ice rink. Organizers are encouraging participants to wear creative and outrageous costumes while skating as the community gathers to close out the season and kick off what city officials hope will become a new local tradition.
At the Glenwood Springs Community Center, registration is now open for the Junior Rec Summer Club 2026, which offers sports, creative activities, and social programming for youth during the summer months.
Families who register by May 15 can take advantage of the lower Standard Registration rate of $80 per day, while Flex Registration beginning May 16 will cost $100 per day for those needing more flexible scheduling. Community Center members receive an additional 20 percent discount.
The Community Center also continues to host youth and family programming throughout the spring. Upcoming events include Kids Night at the Rec on March 14 and April 17, where children can enjoy activities such as bounce houses, swimming, ice skating, climbing, crafts, and gym games while parents enjoy an evening off. Programs also include daily Little Rec Care, an indoor playground program for younger children, and ongoing afterschool programming through the Junior Rec Club.
Teen programming remains a key focus as well. Free drop-in programs such as Teen Jam, Teen Ink, and Early Release Wednesdays through the GWS Teen Pass program give local teens a place to create music, explore art, and socialize in a supervised environment with instruments, art supplies, and equipment provided.
Aquatics programs are also gearing up for the warmer months. Residents can sign up for swim lessons, private instruction, kayak roll practice sessions, and lifeguard training classes, with a Lifeguard Training course scheduled March 30 through April 1. The department will also offer a CPR, AED, and First Aid class on April 21. Officials noted that the Aquatic Center will have temporary closures on March 27 and March 28 for maintenance.
The department’s wellness and fitness programming continues throughout the spring with activities such as NeuroPong adaptive table tennis, climbing classes, personal training, and group fitness classes. Upcoming wellness-focused events include the Older Adult Shamrock Social on March 19, as well as workshops like Seed to Soil on April 28 and a Sound Bath session on April 30.
Seasonal athletics leagues are also approaching. Adult Coed Softball begins April 6, followed by youth programs including T-Ball, Youth Baseball, Youth Softball, and Youth Tennis later in the spring and summer. The department will also host the MLB Pitch, Hit, and Run event on June 6, giving young athletes an opportunity to showcase their skills.
Creative programming at the Glenwood Springs Community Arts Center continues with classes and workshops for both adults and youth. Programs include mixed media workshops, watercolor and wellbeing classes, adult and youth ceramics programs, and spring break art camps. Many of the workshops focus on hands-on learning and experimentation with different artistic mediums.
For residents looking to explore the outdoors, the Glenwood Springs Gear Library provides low-cost rentals ranging from $1 to $20, making outdoor recreation more accessible. The program also offers adaptive equipment to ensure a wider range of community members can enjoy local outdoor opportunities.
City officials encourage residents to explore the full Parks and Recreation calendar to learn more about upcoming classes, programs, volunteer opportunities, and events happening across Glenwood Springs throughout the spring season.
