Glenwood Springs residents, businesses, and trail users are being invited to learn more about a major infrastructure project set to begin this June along Coach Miller Drive. The City of Glenwood Springs will host two neighborhood information meetings later this month to walk the community through construction plans, timelines, and expected impacts.

The project will bring a full rebuild of a key corridor near Glenwood Springs High School and will require a full road closure for much of the summer. City officials are encouraging residents to attend one of the upcoming meetings or review materials online to prepare in advance.

Meeting Dates and How to Attend

The city is offering both an in-person and virtual option to make the information accessible to more residents.

Project Overview

Construction on Coach Miller Drive is scheduled to take place from June 4 through August 21, aligning with the school summer break to reduce impacts on student traffic.

The project includes a full reconstruction of Coach Miller Drive between Park Drive and Pitkin Avenue, along with upgrades to nearby streets and infrastructure. According to City Engineer Ryan Gordon, the city is aiming to inform residents early so detours and closures do not come as a surprise.

“This project will be a full rebuild and replacement of Coach Miller Drive from Park Drive to Pitkin Avenue. We’re hoping to catch neighbors, businesses and trail users now, before the end-of-school rush so that the construction detours aren’t a surprise this summer,” Gordon said.

Traffic and Access Impacts

To complete the work, Coach Miller Drive will be fully closed throughout the duration of the project.

Residents should expect:

  • Full road closure along Coach Miller Drive between Park Drive and Pitkin Avenue
  • Detours in place for vehicles
  • Temporary closure of river trail access near the high school
  • Impacts to trail parking and pedestrian routes

These changes will affect both daily commutes and recreational access in the area, particularly during peak summer months.

Key Improvements Included in the Project

The reconstruction effort includes a range of upgrades designed to improve safety, accessibility, and long term infrastructure reliability:

  • Full rebuild of Coach Miller Drive from Park Drive to Pitkin Avenue
  • New curb, gutter, and stormwater drainage systems
  • Construction of missing sidewalk connections
  • Pedestrian safety improvements including bulb outs at Pitkin Avenue
  • Installation of a new waterline and additional fire hydrants
  • Milling and resurfacing of 14th Street from Pitkin Avenue to Grand Avenue
  • Concrete improvements at the 14th Street and Grand Avenue intersection
  • Paving of the trail parking area
  • Reconfiguration of Glenwood Springs High School access points
  • Adjustments to nearby commercial access, including the Jimmy John’s entrance
  • Installation of new communications conduit to support fiber and broadband improvements

The project will also include water and sewer connections for future upgrades to athletic fields and infrastructure to support potential raw water use at the high school.
