Montrose, CO — The City of Montrose has announced that a municipal election will take place on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, with three City Council seats up for voter consideration. Positions representing District I, District II, and the At-Large seat will appear on the ballot.

Council members elected in District I and District II will each serve four-year terms, while the At-Large representative will serve a two-year term. A map of council districts and other key election information is available at CityofMontrose.org/Elections.

City officials are inviting residents who care deeply about collaboration, public service, and the long-term health of Montrose to consider stepping forward. Serving on City Council provides an opportunity to help shape local priorities, strengthen neighborhoods, and contribute to thoughtful, community-driven decision-making.


How to Run for City Council

Beginning Monday, December 8, 2025, prospective candidates can access the full candidate packet online or pick up a paper packet from the City Clerk’s Office (open Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.).

To qualify, individuals must:

  • Be a registered elector
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have lived within the city and within the district they wish to represent for at least 12 consecutive months before Election Day
  • At-Large candidates may reside anywhere within city limits, as long as all residency requirements are met

Nomination Process and Deadlines

Candidates may begin circulating nomination petitions on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Completed petitions must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office no later than Monday, January 26, 2026.

Each petition requires a minimum of 25 valid signatures from Montrose electors to appear on the ballot.
