*I-70 ramps at Horizon Drive close in stages two nights next week, Fourth Street is shut downtown, Four Canyons Parkway is open, and night paving keeps flaggers on US 6 east of Fruita. Here's what's under construction in Mesa, Garfield and Montrose counties this weekend and the week of Oct. 26.*

The change most Grand Junction drivers will notice is downtown, where Fourth Street is now closed between Ute and Pitkin avenues for CDOT's rebuild, with Third and Fifth streets as the alternates. On the other side of town, Four Canyons Parkway is open between F½ Road and Flat Top Lane, and the city's update no longer lists the Patterson and 25 Road signal work.

Night drivers should plan around I-70 at Horizon Drive. Sunday and Monday nights, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., the westbound on and off ramps at Exit 31 close in stages for paving, and the detours run all the way to Palisade or 24 Road. In Glenwood Canyon, the Hanging Lake Tunnel repair is scheduled to finish by the end of October, with westbound lane closures Monday through Friday morning.

Everything below comes from the city, county or state agency running the job, current as of Friday morning, Oct. 23, when we also checked [COtrip](https://www.cotrip.org/?ref=westernslopetrellis.com) for state highway closures.

### Palisade

The US 6 roundabout at Elberta Avenue is in its final phase, and CDOT's [project page](https://www.codot.gov/projects/us6palisade?ref=westernslopetrellis.com) still says late 2026\. COtrip lists the westbound left lane closed between mile points 126 and 125 Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday, Oct. 30, until noon. CDOT's [advisory](https://www.codot.gov/news/2026/october-2026-news/i70-hanginglake-tunnel-emergency-repair-begin-oct6?ref=westernslopetrellis.com) says to expect holds of up to 10 minutes before the tunnel. COtrip lists no bridge joint closures for next week so far, and CDOT's [project page](https://www.codot.gov/projects/i70glenwoodcanyonbridge?ref=westernslopetrellis.com) expects completion around fall 2026.

### Glenwood Springs

19th Street stays closed between Grand and Blake avenues, and the city's [construction update](https://www.cogs.us/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/1001?ref=westernslopetrellis.com), revised Monday, now says work runs into November, not the end of October. Use Hyland Park Drive or 20th Street; Mindi Harman takes questions at 970-456-2563.

### Rifle

- Whiteriver Avenue stays closed between East Ninth and East 16th streets, with paving starting Friday at the north end, the [city](https://www.rifleco.org/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/621?ref=westernslopetrellis.com) says. Eastbound East 16th has flaggers at Whiteriver through at least Friday, per the [city](https://www.rifleco.org/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/622?ref=westernslopetrellis.com). Use Railroad Avenue or the Highway 13 bypass.
- Megan Avenue's northbound lane between Airport Road and Last Chance Drive is closed for about four weeks from Oct. 5, with northbound traffic sent to Garden Lane, per the [city](https://www.rifleco.org/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/615?ref=westernslopetrellis.com).

### Montrose County

### Ida Road

Ida Road west of 6400 Road stays closed for Montrose County's box culvert replacement, which started Oct. 12 and runs about six weeks, per the [county](https://www.montrosecounty.net/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1310&ref=westernslopetrellis.com). Follow the posted detour; Rich Rivera (970-252-7009) and Mike Hindson (970-964-2448) take questions.

### Around Montrose

Daytime sewer main work on San Juan Avenue and Highway 50 keeps at least one through lane open each way, though the [city](https://montroselifestyle.com/sewer-construction-begins-on-san-juan-ave-sep-15/?ref=westernslopetrellis.com) anticipates several overnight closures for tie-ins and valve work and a winter shutdown generally from November to March (Ryan Cushenan, 970-240-1485). The Lasalle Road bridge just west of Highway 50 has had single lane traffic with flaggers since Sept. 28, per the [county](https://www.montrosecounty.net/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1306&ref=westernslopetrellis.com), which gives no end date.

### Heading south

As of Friday morning, Oct. 23, COtrip listed US 550 over Red Mountain Pass closed north of Silverton, mile points 75 to 80.2, because of flooding, calling it an extended closure. It is outside our area but on the route south from Montrose, so check COtrip before you go.

## Looking ahead

We found no closure announcements posted yet specifically for the week of Nov. 2\. Ida Road, 19th Street, 32½ Road, Orchard Avenue and both night paving jobs continue into November or beyond, and the city of Montrose's [Sept. 25 notice](https://montroselifestyle.com/cobble-drive-waterline-improvements/?ref=westernslopetrellis.com) anticipated additional closures of Cobble Drive and 6450 Road around mid-November for permanent asphalt patching, one road at a time to keep neighborhood access.
